CarDS Lab Welcomes Physician-Scientist Training Program (PSTP) Members!

We are happy to announce and celebrate the achievements of two exceptional members of CarDS Lab who have now transitioned to working full-time as part of the prestigious ABIM Physician-Scientist Training Program (PSTP). Their dedication to medicine and scientific research has earned them this incredible opportunity to further advance their careers and contribute to cardiovascular medicine research.

Introducing Our New PSTP Members:

Dr. Evangelos Oikonomou, MD, DPhil

Dr. Oikonomou is a dedicated and accomplished member of CarDS Lab whose research in multi-modal machine learning approaches to personalize the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease have already yielded important contributions to the scientific community. As a full-time Physician-Scientist, he is focusing on the use of phenomapping strategies to derive personalized effect estimates from randomized controlled trials, as well as on the deep learning phenotyping of echocardiograms for early cardiovascular disease diagnosis.

Dr. Phyllis Thangaraj, MD, PhD

Dr. Thangaraj has a track record of excellence in both medical practice and scientific investigation. Her previous work includes developing machine learning methods to improve the phenotyping of stroke in the electronic health record and improving the power of genome-wide association studies in the UK Biobank. She is interested in developing methods to improve precision medicine in cardiology, harmonizing multi-modal and multi-site data, and characterizing gray areas between clinical trials and real-world patient populations.

Yale’s Physician-Scientist Training Program (PSTP) is designed to nurture the talents of promising physician-scientists, empowering them to pursue a combined career in medicine and research. CarDS Lab is committed to providing a supportive environment where they can engage in cutting-edge research, collaborate with experts in the field, and acquire the skills necessary to translate scientific discoveries into clinical applications.
