Omar El-Charif, M.D. is a Physician-Scientist Track Cardiology Fellow at Yale and Research Fellow in the CarDS Lab.

Omar graduated with a B.A. in the Biological Sciences at the University of Chicago receiving an Honors in Research for his thesis on Genome-Wide Analysis of chemotherapeutic toxicities. He developed expertise in functional and machine learning (ML)-based polygenic analysis. He then received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Rochester where he earned the Alpha Omega Alpha award, the Gold humanism award, and the Doran J. Stephens Award. In medical school, he became inspired by hemodynamic physiology and decided to apply his background to cardiovascular disease, leading him to the CarDS-Lab after completing his Internal Medicine residency at Yale.

Omar’s interests involve the span of translational research from silicone to bedside. He has authored several publications including a textbook chapter on machine learning for radiation oncologists, and received a Translational Research Award at Yale Cardiology.

In the CarDS Lab, Omar aims to bring together his experience in machine learning, -omics, and clinical cardiology for the discovery, refinement, and deployment of decision support tools improving care for patients with cardiovascular disease.
